EXMOUTH FESTIVAL
Exmouth festival is an eight day music and ars festival that is held in Exmouth every summer and has done so for the las 18 years. The Exmouth festival has grown to be a huge event within the town. Every year, thousands of people come to watch great music ,great art and have great times in the seaside town.
The musical line-up usually includes a range of
styles and genres, including jazz, blues, folk reggae and pop/rock, resulting
in there being something on offer for everyone, whatever their age.
As well as the music at the festival, there is a
wide range of arts and craft displays, shows, events and workshops, including
poetry, painting, pottery and dance, as well as some more unusual activities,
such as ukulele playing, creative fabrics design and sing and sign sessions,
once again offering something to do for all members of the family.
Although the main festival runs for eight days,
the festival continues throughout the summer through a diverse range of summer
events and the Sunday Summer Sessions, where you can see live music at Manor
Gardens every Sunday afternoon during summer.
Music, arts, theatre, workshops and the famous Exmouth
Sand sculpture competition attract over 35,000 visitors over the eight days.
Music Exmouth Festival supports with an award of
£12,000 from the National Lottery platform hundreds of emerging artists from Devon as well as offering
audiences music from further afield. In recent years the festival has played
host to BBC award winning artists, BBC introducing acts, and established
household names such as Bad Manners.
This year’s festival will run from Friday, May 26 to
Saturday, June 3. The Free Art Friday project will see
local artists creating a piece of art and leaving it somewhere in town,
encouraging members of the public to go out and find it and take it home for
free.
In the evenings the town will be animated by the Exmouth Town Concert Band and Jazz in the Park and audiences can choose from a night of
poetry from Exmouth Creative
Writers and friends, a production of Twelfth Night and a musical
evening of sea shanties celebrating the town’s history..
Festivals bring
people together, they help people to identify with the place in which they
live, and they can bring economic benefit to an area.

The Exmouth Festival is a free community event and as such is reliant on the help of volunteers. The work needed to put on the festival is as diverse as the festival itself. With jobs such as fund raising, decorating the grounds, providing information to festival goers, taking photography and video, and generally being of help where needed.
